Description:
|
In 1818, a half-educated but boldly self-possessed beauty named Fanny Brawne captures the admiration, and then the love, of a tubercular young man, John Keats. Director Jane Campion does not play up the irony that he would soon be known as one of the greatest poets in English since Shakespeare and Milton. She keeps the action day-by- day, small- scale, and casually lyrical. Many of the scenes of Fanny and Keats have a high-speed delicacy that borders on precious and then safely pulls back to the everyday. The period re-creation, sure-handed yet unemphatic, is extraordinary.
